Faultless Stove

George Alig, president of the Home Stove Company, came to Indianapolis in 1871 from Switzerland, where he was born in 1852. He had no trade, but had been, with his father, engaged in dealing in cattle in the old country, and spoke German, Italian, French and Roman dialect, 7 lauguages in all. He found work with D. Root & Co., and in 1875, was one of the incorporators of the Indianapolis Stove Company. In 1893 he sold his interest in that company and started the Home Stove Company, which at one time employed 230 men and sold its product in every state in the Union. Perhaps someone in your family had one of their stoves at one time.
